WordPress 3.0 Update and Video

Thelonious is out. The new WordPress 3.0. The friggin’ day after I finish optimizing my blog on 2.9.2. However, there are a lot of great things about the new update.

First, an informative video

Of everything that has been added, and plenty has been added, these are the things that I think are the coolest for the average WP user.

Easy Theme Editing

New themes will have a simple way to change the background, header and menus without having to jump into the code. No longer to you have to be a CSS monkey or a PHP nerd to get things done in WordPress. This will help a lot of rookies make their blogs look super sharp and professional.

New default theme

The sharp looking Twenty Ten is the new default theme replacing Default (based on Kubrick). This minimalist theme has a customizable header and background with the new, easy-to-use theme editing function. It’s clean, it’s quick to edit and it’s much, much better than Kubrick.

Post Types, Menus and Taxonomy

There’s a lot of great things coming out, but one of the best things to come out is Post Types. I foresee this as being something that is largely used by Web Commerce folks. Now you can make a separate post type for product, blog, gallery, newsletter or anything else that you can think of. You can also customize menus by page, providing the opportunity for good honest SEO.

WordPress MU

WordPress Multi-User will let you run as many sites as you’d like off of a single installation of WordPress. That means that you can manage one site or 10 Million if you’ve got the domains. I’ll definitely think about running a few of my other sites off of this awesome new update.

What’s your favorite part of the update? Do you like 3.0 or hate it? Leave your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to get a discussion going with my fictional readership.
